Project Overview

For this project, I wanted to create kinetic typography animation for the fragmented song of Young Folks by Peter Bjorn and John, using the conga as the central rhythmic element. I liked the rhythm and how I was able to played with the lyrics and the pace of the song because it is smooth and relaxing.The idea was to recreate the mood of the video with the lyrics incorporated.

Concept development

I started with the song selection, something distictive for its rythim and engaging melody, then identifying the congaas the principal element of Rhythm to guide the animation's tempo and energy. Creating a mood board of inspiration videos including colors, fonts and graphical elements that match the song's vibe.

Creative process

Using Adobe Illustrator, I crafted detailed and scalable vector assets in a handrawing aspect. As well as the font. These were then moved into Adobe After Effects, where animation was achieved through careful keyframing, layering, and effects, culminating in a seamless and engaging final animation.

Styleframes

The lyrics of the song are broken down into segments that will be animated, noting key moments and phrases that align with the conga beats. A storyboard is sketched to outline the visual flow of the animation, highlighting transitions, text placements, and key rhythmic moments. Timing and pacing are established for each segment based on the conga rhythm, ensuring the text animation synchronizes with the beats. Then, with the typeface I created the energy and style of the song. Aswell as the grpahical elements such as lines and shapes.

Final Touches

Finally, the appropriate export settings in Adobe After Effects were chosen to ensure high quality while maintaining a Full HD size. A final review of the exported animation was conducted to ensure all elements were correct and synchronized with the conga rhythm and ensure an entertain video.
